After Action Session (AAS) – Somatic-Sensory Stabilization

The After Action Session (AAS) is a trauma-informed, somatic-sensory stabilization intervention designed to reduce symptoms of Acute Stress. It helps individuals who experience panic, intrusive thoughts, tension, irritability, avoidance, or difficulty concentrating, sleeping, or feeling joy.

This evidence-based technique works by decreasing the emotional intensity of distressing experiences, allowing them to be recalled as “just memories” rather than relived with strong emotions or physical sensations.

Sessions are led by a licensed mental health therapist and may be conducted individually or in groups of up to eight members (larger if peer support is present). AAS is not group therapy or debriefing—there is no verbal processing during the session, and confidentiality is fully maintained. Each participant leaves with their materials and receives a brief wellness check to determine if additional support or referral is needed.
